Originally a small fishing village on the south east coast, Puerto del Carmen is now the island´s main tourist resort, a ten minutes drive from the airport.
The coastline is a mixture of lovely long sandy beaches and peaceful small coves.
The main road through Puerto del Carmen is the “Avenida de las Playas", where there is a great selection of shops, bars and restaurants. This is also where you will find the discotheques.
The old town, on the south end, is where the old harbour is situated, as well as more restaurants and bars. There you will find the beach of Playa Chica where you can go diving, jet skiing and parascending.
Just before entering the old town you will see the “Biosfera” shopping centre, with good value shops such as Zara and Punta Roma.
There is also a big shopping centre “Deiland” in Playa Honda, near the airport, which can be reached by car, taxi or local bus.
At the centre of the old town is the harbour and old town square, surrounded by lots of good seafood restaurants.
Puerto Del Carmen is the ideal resort for both young and old, with so much to offer, no wonder people come back year after year.
